Trump’s Census Exclusion Plan Doubted By NY Judges

Law360 (September 3, 2020, 4:53 PM EDT) — A trio of New York federal court judges seemed to harbor doubt Thursday about the legality of President Donald Trump’s attempt to not count unauthorized immigrants in the 2020 U.S. census, with one judge remarking that such a policy could invite “political chicanery.”

The chicanery comment came from U.S. District Judge Jesse M. Furman, who is on a three-judge panel handling a challenge to the Republican president’s latest anti-immigrant policy gambit that was filed by states including New York and California.
