NFL, DirecTV Say Sunday Ticket Case Not Like NCAA TV Suit

Law360 (August 12, 2020, 6:59 PM EDT) — The National Football League and DirecTV told the U.S. Supreme Court an appeals court wrongly relied on the landmark 1984 high court ruling that the NCAA can’t limit how many weekend college football games are shown on TV to allow bar and restaurant owners to pursue claims that the satellite television provider’s exclusive NFL Sunday Ticket package similarly harms sports fans.

The NFL and DirecTV asked the high court Feb. 7 to take up the sprawling antitrust case, in which they are accused of conspiring to price-gouge football fans who want to watch out-of-market games that aren’t aired nationally.
