9th Circ. Revives Syrian Christian’s Bid For Removal Relief
Law360 (June 26, 2020, 2:46 PM EDT) — The Ninth Circuit revived a Syrian man’s request for deportation relief, ruling that the Board of Immigration Appeals incorrectly passed over evidence of the Syrian government’s human rights abuses against Syrian Christians.
In an unpublished opinion Thursday, the Ninth Circuit twice rapped the immigration court of appeals for how it weighed Ammar Hachicho’s application for withholding of removal: once for skipping over evidence that all Syrians face harm in the civil war-torn country and again for viewing only the Islamic State group and rebel groups as potential persecutors.
