Volkswagen’s ‘Clean Diesel’ Scandal Laid Out For Calif. Jury
Law360, San Francisco (February 27, 2020, 11:57 PM EST) — Volkswagen faced off Thursday over the value of the vehicles in question in a bellwether jury trial against 10 California customers who claim they’re entitled to damages stemming from the German automaker’s “clean diesel” emissions scandal, marking the first U.S. trial for Volkswagen since it admitted to equipping 11 million vehicles with emission-cheating devices in 2015.
“They’ve waited years” to get to this trial, said counsel for the drivers, delivering opening statements in the bifurcated bellwether trial’s first phase.
